As part of its long-term vision, the ILL Science Strategy outlines how the Institute will build on the enhancements made to its instrument suite through the Endurance programme. This strategy aims to strengthen our scientific programme, expand the user community, and address major societal challenges. It provides a framework to guide resource allocation, highlight the ILL’s essential role in European science and innovation, and support political decisions on the future of neutron research in Europe.
A key aspect of this strategy is the creation of Science Hubs—new structures designed to consolidate existing strengths while fostering emerging research areas of societal importance. These hubs will serve as centres of expertise, promoting collaboration, expanding the user base, and reinforcing industrial connections. The Advanced Manufacturing Science Hub, in which this position is based, will play a crucial role in making progress in research into advanced manufacturing using neutron techniques, ensuring the delivery of high-quality science and impactful discoveries.
Your tasks
As coordinator of the Advanced Manufacturing Science Hub reporting directly to the Director of Science, you will:
• Propose and manage a five-year research programme addressing scientific and societal challenges using neutron experimental capabilities.
• Submit a five-page proposal outlining the research programme, including objectives, milestones, key performance indicators, a timeline, and a resourcing plan.
• Oversee the implementation of in-situ/in-operando 3D printing support infrastructure at the ILL.
• Coordinate and lead a team of ILL scientists and external users to achieve the programme’s objectives.
• Ensure the programme's scientific excellence through a competitive, peer-reviewed proposal process.
• Develop collaborations on the EPN campus, particularly with the ESRF.
Please note that all applicants are subject to administrative screening (background checks) and that medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
